The fortified town of Fredrikstad was one of the most important strongholds between Bohus Fortress (Båhus, today Sweden) and Akerhus Castle (Oslo) in the Middle Ages. During the Hannibal feud (part of the 30-year war, also known as the Torstensson War), the city was expanded into a fortress city, initially with simple earth walls and moats. The fortress has been repeatedly rebuilt and expanded over the centuries and has been preserved to this day. The city is located on the east bank of the river and also serves to control the Glomma River. The outworks Isegran (1657), Cicignon (1677) and Kongsten (1682-85) were added later. The stone ship. A ship was placed as a burial place. Probably from the younger Iron Age. At that time the sea level was higher and so this stone ship should have seen a shallow bay. Interesting especially for non-Scandinavians, since something like this is not found too often outside of Scandinavia.

Götiska Förbundet ADD TITLE DESCRIPTION The Götiska Förbundet (Gothic League) was an association of Swedish writers who wanted to bring the spirit of Norse mythology into the first half of the 19th century. The beginnings of the federal government lay in regular meetings of some (former) fellow students who wanted to celebrate the "old northerners". At these meetings they wore Viking helmets, drank from horns and gave themselves Old Nordic names. Over time, the common idea developed at the meetings to bring the Scandinavian people closer to the spirit of the north through poetry and stories. Based on this idea, the group founded Götiska Förbundet in 1811. In their poems they mixed Old Norse with Celtic, Greek and Roman elements, thereby trying to make the old world of the north the subject of poetic treatment and historical research.

The cold bath house in Strömstad is located along the promenade in central Strömstad. The current cold bath house is the third to be built. The first was located at Bojarkilen and was active in the 18th century. The second was given a slightly more central location in the southern harbor. This was built in 1887 and demolished in 1967. Today's cold bath house is beautifully situated facing the North Sea and was inaugurated in June 2005. Before the summer season 2015, a sun deck of about 150 sqm was built over the inner pool. This opens up for many more sun worshipers and can also be used for group training sessions, such as yoga, sh´bam etc. In June 2018, a new free weight gym was inaugurated.
