The Steenkensbeek is a former riverbed of the Grote Nete, and this section is truly beautiful. A very pleasant path along a lovely winding stream that can sometimes take up a section of the path after heavy rain, resulting in wet feet. Perfect for those who enjoy mud and puddles in rainy weather.

The Grote Nete, roughly speaking, marks the transition to the Kempen region. This rain-fed river flows through a diverse landscape with vast marshlands, sandy grasslands, and mixed forests. The Grote Nete valley includes the Grote Laak, Kleine Laak, Rode Laak, Wimp, Herselt Loop, and Zaartloop. The Liniebrug bicycle and pedestrian bridge is part of the Liniefietsweg (Line Cycle Path), which is approximately 800 meters long and also includes a small bridge over the Steenkesbrug and new bicycle posts. Day trippers, such as hikers, also benefit: Hulshout is located in the Grote Nete valley, where the Sigma Plan is creating "wet nature." No fewer than 850 hectares of flower-rich grasslands and reed beds will be added, the favorite habitat of numerous unique plants and animals. This wet nature also serves a safety function. It acts like a sponge and retains water, so flooding should soon be a thing of the past. This isn't the Linie Pond, which gave its name to the nearby bridge and cycle path. The Linie lies south of the Grote Nete and west of De Poer, as you can see on the map. This pond is much smaller and has little to offer.

Bridge over the Grote Nete river on the Kempen Hageland route. The bridge is part of the F106 (Herentals-Aarschot cycle highway), which was built over thirty years ago by the province of Antwerp and is popularly known as "De Route" (The Route). It was built on a former railway line, of which the bridge was also a part, specifically the section between Aarschot and Herentals of the former Railway Line 29 Aarschot - Tilburg.

The Grote Nete is a tributary of the Nete River in the Scheldt basin. It is approximately 80 kilometers long. You can walk along and around it for hours.
