The Balenberg in Baal is much more than just a hill. This is the home base of the Sven Nys Cycling Center, where sports, nature and experience come together. With its modest height, the Balenberg is an ideal place for those who want to test their legs on a short climb, but also for families who like to walk or cycle in a green environment. At the top of the hill you can enjoy a beautiful view over the Hageland, and in the museum you can discover the impressive story of cyclo-cross legend Sven Nys. The surrounding routes take you over gravel paths, sunken roads and quiet country roads — perfect for both the sporty cyclist and the recreational walker. A stop at the Balenberg is a must during your trip in the heart of Flemish Brabant!

Beautiful single tracks between the trees and along babbling brooks

A small slope, but an excellent place to have a quiet drink during the bike ride. Bikes can be safely secured and there is a possibility to charge. From the terrace a beautiful view of the area. There is also a bike museum and associated shop. Ideal stop during a bike ride through the area.

Crossing the Laak...

In the forests south of Aarschot you will find a mix of challenging climbs and exciting descents. The steep climbs require stamina, while the descents with sharp bends and root parties provide the necessary technical challenge.

Magnificent open part, but the western access is via a very muddy portion in winter, very slippery. Perfect for mountain biking (according to other comments), a bit of a headache for beginners in gravel (I learned that the hard way..!). Accustomed to road cycling, going through this type of path is always a magical moment.
