6월 5, 2025, Kasteel van Huldenberg
Huldenberg Castle is nestled between wooded hills and rolling meadows in the picturesque Dijle Valley. Although it is privately owned and not open to visitors, the stately building with its towers and surrounding park forms a beautiful backdrop along your route. Enjoy the peaceful view and the charming atmosphere of the historic landscape here.

A boardwalk is a walking path consisting of planks or wooden plates that are attached to poles or support beams above the ground. You often see them: • in marshy or wet areas, such as forests with marshy areas, dunes or nature reserves, • to ensure that walkers stay dry and do not damage the vulnerable nature, • sometimes in a straight line, sometimes winding (zigzagging) to follow the natural environment.

A sunken road is a road that is so deeply worn that it lies between two slopes. It is the result of centuries of use and erosion. The most beautiful sunken roads can be found especially in hilly areas with a subsoil that easily forms steep walls, such as in Haspengouw and Hageland.

The water pump is in a small flowerbed that is cordoned off. It is not yet clear to me whether it has more than an ornamental function.

10월 25, 2024, Singletrack Along Bois de Laurensart
Between fields and the important nature reserve of the Bois de Laurensart. The nature reserve Bois de Laurensart is a nature reserve on the Brabant plateau that is characterised by three geological substrates: alluvium, silt, sand and sandstone. It has three dominant soil types: moderately gleyed soils (transformed into clay) from 40 cm on open silt in the wet part. On the western slope, the southern part of the eastern slope and the western part of the plateau it is characterised by dry sandy loam soils with a humus layer. On the eastern slopes and the eastern part of the plateau the soils are sandy loam soils. Traces of human presence have been found since the Middle Paleolithic (70,000 to 30,000 BC), as evidenced by the flints found in the surrounding fields. In the Neolithic period (4,000 or 3,000 BC), hunters and gatherers settled here and became farmers and cattle breeders. The visible earthen wall on the site is a remnant that testifies to the habitation of this area by the so-called “Michelsberg” population. Varied forest path. On one side the forest and on the other side different views. The Dijle is always nearby so you see wet parts now and then (and the path can be a bit wet here and there) with sometimes real pools. There are also different bunkers and regularly there are felled trees on your path. The greater humidity has an impact on the flora along the path.

10월 22, 2024, View of the Dyle and Château de Laurensart
View of the Dijle (where the war past is never far away) and a beautiful avenue of plane trees called ‘Drève des Anglais’ which also reminds us of the battles at the Dijle bridge. You also have a beautiful but somewhat distant view of the Château de Laurensart here. The neo-Rococo building was built by order of the noble family de Spoelbergh, who once owned almost all the land (park, forest and meadow) that you see here, more than 200 ha in total. It is now privately owned by the Count of Liedekerke and is occasionally open to the public. The closer Ferme de Laurensart, a stately square farm, built in the 17th century and subsequently renovated, is better visible but it needs work.
