Scheldevelde Castle owes its name to the name 'Scheldeveld', which the area was originally called in the 13th century, as a reference to a large area of uncultivated land. Over the centuries it was given different functions and seven avenues were laid out from the castle around 1777. The castle currently functions as a service center and home for the elderly of the O.C.M.W. Scheldt field.
