This artificial lake was created by damming the Turritecava stream in the late 1930s. Its protected location makes it an excellent refuge for birds. Canyoning is possible nearby on the Rio Selvano, a tributary of the Turritecava.

The town owes its origins to the late Middle Ages settlement of a colony of blacksmiths from Bergamo, later joined by families from the surrounding area. At the time of Italian unification, the town had approximately 2,000 inhabitants, but today, due to progressive depopulation, it numbers just under 500, including the hamlets. The Pieve di San Lorenzo is worth a visit. A papal document attests to its presence as early as 1148, but it is likely that the church was built on a pre-existing body. The interior of the church is a perfect example of Romanesque architecture, truly extraordinary for having been preserved as it was originally, without subsequent alterations. The façade also reflects the original structure, but over time it has undergone slight modifications due to earthquakes that required its restoration.
