Valsanzibio was brought to splendor in the second half of the 17th century by the Venetian nobleman Zuane Francesco Barbarigo and his son Antonio following a solemn vow made in 1631 to escape the plague (1630/31). The eldest son, Gregory, a cardinal and future saint, inspired the lofty symbolism of the monumental layout by the papal architect and fountain designer Luigi Bernini and wanted the garden of Valsanzibio to be a monumental emblem of the path to perfection that leads man from Error to Truth, from Ignorance to Revelation. Over sixty statues, mostly by Merengo, and an equal number of smaller sculptures are integrated into the architecture, waterfalls, fountains, and water features on 15 hectares of unspoiled hillside nature.

On the northern slopes of the Euganean Hills, the abbey of Praglia boasts about 900 years of history and today presents the largest Benedictine monastic community in Italy, with over 40 members. The current Abbot is Stefano Visintin.

The climb is simply beautiful, with a good view every time. Somewhat steeper sections are followed by flatter ones, with the surface mostly gravel that is easy to ride on. There is only a short road up to there.

Panoramic tour on roads with little traffic. Some stretches of path that can easily be avoided by staying on the asphalt road. Return to the plain along the cycle path

The back gate was open because there had been a celebration the night before. The cleanup must have been a real challenge :-) It's interesting to see the courtyard come alive again. A great backdrop, a building you can't miss. Beautifully integrated into the landscape, look at this castle on the Bacchiglione River. It's a worthwhile destination for a tour; it's definitely worth a detour!
