Michael Oberpertinger, a trained chef who runs the Spitalerhof winery in Klausen, follows a minimalist philosophy in wine production: "As little as possible, as much as necessary." This approach preserves the unique character of the wines and is also reflected in the natural cultivation of the vineyards. The winery specializes in Eisacktal white wines, with Grüner Veltliner playing a particularly important role. The Grüner Veltliner Muga is a winery specialty, where the grapes are harvested in November when they are partially dried and affected by botrytis. The wine is fermented in wooden barrels and aged on the lees, which gives it its unique character. In addition to Grüner Veltliner, the Spitalerhof also grows Sauvignon, Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, and Lagrein. You can enjoy refreshments at the Muga restaurant. The Eisacktal Winery, South Tyrol's youngest cooperative winery, clearly pursues the goal of producing mineral, fruity, and elegant mountain wines with their own distinctive character. It is the smallest and northernmost cooperative winery in Italy and consists of 135 members. The grapes grow on steep terraces at altitudes of 250 to 1,000 meters, with vineyard work often done by hand and natural cultivation in harmony with nature. Thanks to the late harvest, the grapes benefit from optimal climatic conditions. The winery produces around 950,000 bottles annually and focuses primarily on the Sylvaner, Kerner, Müller Thurgau, and Grüner Veltliner varieties.
