Sogn Placi (Placidus Church), Disentis Mustér The St. Placidus Church is a church in Disentis in the Surselva in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It stands on the eastern edge of the village by the torrent from the Val Plaz. On the alleged site of the martyrdom of St. Placidus of Disentis around 720, a chapel was built in the 9th century (804?), which was destroyed by an avalanche in January 1458. It was rebuilt to its original size. Excavations in 1923 revealed a Carolingian hall church with a semicircular apse. The new baroque building began in 1655; the old chapel was demolished. The church was consecrated on September 3, 1658. The architect was Domenico Barbieri from Roveredo in Misox. The church was restored from 1990 to 1993. Unlike the two previous buildings, the church's longitudinal axis is aligned to the north so that its massive tower can act as an avalanche breaker. To the right and left of the entrance doors are paintings of the monastery saints Sigisbert of Disentis and Placidus. Only the two side altars date from around 1655. The high altar dates from the second half of the 18th century, the pulpit from around 1800."
