Lonigo, an international city of wine, rises between plains and hills at the south-western end of the Berici hills. To the visitor it appears from afar with an unmistakable profile that completes the sinuous ridge of the Berici hills. Its forms are traced by historical architecture, symbols of a past to be discovered and admired which has nothing to envy of other much better known and visited centres.

The white wine of the same name, Soave, is named after the city. The place is said to have been founded around 500 AD by a tribe of the Suevi, from which the place name is derived. However, the area had already been inhabited during Roman times and was located on the important Roman road Via Postumia. The castle was first mentioned in documents in the 10th century. It belonged to the Sanbonifacio of Verona and passed to the Scaligeri in the 13th century. In the years that followed, Soave and its castle changed hands several times.

A very beautiful, tranquil little town with a few sights. A worthwhile destination for a tour or a detour off the main route. You can linger a while in this place, there is a lot to discover! It's worth it!

Castle and city fortification Soave offer a coherent defensive ensemble, which was built around 1369 by Cansignorio della Scala.
