Perfect for a mid-November visit, as I did today. The lake is frozen and magnificent to see. It's a short drive from San Giuseppe—it took me an hour and a quarter—but there's ice in some spots, and it's quite cold, being on the dark side. But it's worth it.

A charming alpine lake with turquoise waters, nestled in a valley surrounded by hills, with a beautiful view all around. It can be reached from San Giuseppe (1h30min from signs) and from other itineraries in Valmalenco. The path from San Giuseppe has some steep and wet sections, especially during the thaw: comfortable footwear suitable for the terrain is recommended.

Rifugio Luna Nascente, located in Val di Mello, is a welcoming structure immersed in the heart of one of the most suggestive Alpine valleys in Lombardy. Located at about 1,000 meters above sea level, the refuge is surrounded by spectacular granite walls, lush forests and crystal-clear streams, making it an ideal destination for hikers, climbers and nature lovers. The kitchen offers typical Valtellina dishes, prepared with local ingredients, which are the perfect complement to a day spent hiking and climbing. The facility also offers the possibility of overnight stays, making it a strategic base for exploring the valley or tackling climbing routes such as the famous "Luna Nascente" wall. Val di Mello, with its pristine environment and unique beauty, is often called the "little Italian Yosemite". The Rifugio Luna Nascente, perfectly inserted in this context, is a place to relax, regenerate and fully experience contact with nature. It is particularly recommended in spring and autumn, when the valley is filled with spectacular colors and the climate is ideal for outdoor activities.

The route from San Giuseppe takes about 1 hour, the path is not difficult but rather steep and wet given its exposure.

Beautiful suspension bridge over the Mallero river, very high and panoramic both over Sondrio and the entrance to Val Malenco and its gorge carved out by the water. The passage is very wide and safe, and connects Ponchiera and Mossini without passing through Sondrio. It is worth stopping by if you are going towards Val Malenco or if you want to take a panoramic tour above Sondrio.
