I did exactly what Dirk described. I took the train from Jena to Camburg and then cycled along the Zuckerbahn cycle path. After a slight climb, the path becomes very flat and has many crossings over more or less busy roads. Of course, there are also many bridges. Orientation was sometimes difficult, but my intuition helped. Zeitz is very beautiful, but finding the Elster cycle path to Gera from there isn't easy. Still doable. 😁 Highly recommended.

Anyone traveling along the Saale River should definitely plan a stop at the Öblitzschleuse lock. There, you'll not only find a wonderful atmosphere right on the water, but also some truly delicious food. The kettle goulash, which has been served here for a long time and is a delight every time, is particularly recommended. Also new to the menu is the Starnberger Helle beer, which goes perfectly with it—a real insider tip for connoisseurs!

Very quaint pub, there is delicious food and drinks, always worth a visit!
