A beautiful renovation in a peaceful place

At the top of Mount Barro (581 m) there is an ancient medieval village, born around the church of Santa Maria Annunziata. Probably built on the ruins of a castle, this church preserves an apse with a stone dated 1484. The houses, made of local stone and close to each other, were once home to farmers who cultivated fields and vineyards. The last inhabitant left the village in 1977, marking the end of its rural life. Today, every 1st May, Mount Barro comes alive with the traditional Fiora festival. This popular event, inspired by the ancient gesture of lovers exchanging bouquets of flowers, celebrates the community's first spring outing, transforming the village into a place of celebration and memories.

Monte Falò and Tre Montagnette offer a breathtaking view of Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, with a view that, on clear days, extends to the skyscrapers of Milan. The circular route of about 10 km is suitable for everyone and allows you to continue to Montatone. Limited parking along the road and no refuges along the way, but the landscape is absolutely worth the visit.

The German-language television series “Treasures of the World - Heritage of Humanity” - which I can recommend without reservation - is dedicated to the places with UNESCO World Heritage sites on all continents and eras in short film clips. This includes the “SACRI MONTI” in northern Italy (there are a total of eight of these “Holy Mountains” in Piedmont and a ninth in Lombardy), which are presented to the culture-loving viewer in a 15-minute clip. Danger! All hiking trails to and from the summit are no longer accessible and completely overgrown. The golf course and new developments completely cut off access.
