Posted in Salento Fortificazioni collection https://www.komoot.it/collection/1396951/-salento-fortificazioni - The Petraroli Castle, partly publicly owned and partly private, currently in a state of decay, has a square plan and is spread over two floors, around an internal courtyard, it is surrounded by a large garden, which fills the space originally occupied by a moat. On a door inside the atrium of the castle we can admire the coat of arms of the Spinola family, which came into possession of Borgagne in 1616. In the north-east corner, the one with the better preserved curtain than that of the main facade, incorporates partially, a pre-existing tower built in 1498, the year is derived from the inscription present under the noble coat of arms of the Petraroli, from which it takes its name. The Petraroli Castle is the identity symbol of the entire Borgagne community and an architectural element rich in history. [Source: FAI]
