The impressive church is usually referred to by locals simply as "the Pantheon." Construction began in 1919 after the First World War. Its circular nave is unique. The cylindrical structure is characterized by large columns with expansive windows. These columns support a small terrace with several smaller windows, each crowned by a stone cross. A small reinforced concrete bell tower rises from the church roof. It is an important memorial to the fallen of the First World War, as it houses the remains of Syracusan soldiers who died on the front lines during that conflict.

right at the top of the hill is this seemingly insignificant Madonna. Insignificant to those who pass by but not to those who put flowers there. It deserves a pause to catch your breath.
