11월 25, 2025, Santuario della Madonna delle Fontane
In view of this small wayside shrine, which the builders dedicated to the Madonna, I would like to offer the viewer a brief reflection from Saint Padre Pio (Pio da Pietrelcina, 1887 to 1968): “Always stay close to this Heavenly Mother, for she is the sea that must be crossed to reach the shores of eternal splendor.”

7월 18, 2025, Chiesa di San Rocco - Lodi
The Church of San Rocco is a Catholic parish church located in Lodi, in the Borgo Adda neighborhood, near the Napoleon Bonaparte Bridge. In ancient times, Lodi had four churches dedicated to San Rocco, each positioned at the city gates to protect against plagues. In the 17th century, the destruction of the extramural villages left only the Church of San Rocco standing, located outside Porta d'Adda. At the beginning of the 20th century, the church proved too small and in poor condition. The parish priest, Father Ponzoni, proposed demolishing it and building a new, larger church. The project was approved in 1906 by the city council, which also decided to demolish the adjacent Porta d'Adda arch. The cornerstone of the new church was laid on May 31, 1909. Designed in the Romanesque Revival style by Milanese architect Cecilio Arpesani (a design similar to his other work, the Basilica of Sant'Agostino in Milan), it was completed and consecrated on May 28, 1911. The bell tower, initially only half-built, was completed and inaugurated on September 25, 1937. It houses an old clock from the Lodi Cathedral dating back to 1787, and at its base, a plaque commemorates the fallen of the Ethiopian War and the proclamation of the Empire.

It's probably a lot busier here in the summer. Today there were a few regulars here, who probably like to spend their afternoons on the banks of the Po. The proprietor seems very nice and would have prepared us a meal, but it was too early for us.

4월 6, 2024, Chiesa di San Francesco (Lodi)
One of the few saints who is highly valued outside of Christianity is San Francesco, known in German-speaking countries as Francis of Assisi. Francis was born in Assisi in 1181/82 and died in 1226. In his youth, as the son of wealthy parents, he was more of a bon vivant, but later he turned to Christ. One day he was praying in the half-ruined church of San Damiano, located on a hillside outside the city walls of Assisi, and heard the voice of Christ from the cross, calling on him to "rebuild his church". At first he took this request literally and restored the church building, but later he came to the realization that this was primarily about the church as the community of believers. Francis became a role model for many people, they joined him and the "Order of the Minor Brothers" (Ordo Fratrum Minorum) of Francis of Assisi was founded. Today, there are three male branches in the vast Franciscan order: the Franciscans, the Minorites and the Capuchins; and two female branches: the Franciscan sisters and the Poor Clares. In addition, there is the "Third" or "Secular" Order, which can be joined by women and men who do not take the classic religious vows (poverty, chastity and obedience) and continue to live in their families and professions.

4월 5, 2024, Attraversamento del fiume Lambro
"Attraverssamento del fiume Lambro"; The Lambro is a river in the Italian region of Lombardy. The total length of the river is approximately 130 kilometers. The source of the Lambro, Menaresta is located on the flank of Monte San Primo (1685 m), the highest mountain of the Triangolo Lariano that divides Lake Como in two. The first kilometers the river flows through the Valassina, then the Lambro crosses Lake Pusiano and later flows further into the Brianza. Between Lake Pusiano and the city of Monza, the river and the surrounding area have been declared a protected area (Parco Regionale della Valle del Lambro). Arriving at the conurbation of Milan, the river flows straight through Monza, and past the cities of Sesto San Giovanni and Milan. The last kilometers the Lambro flows through the flat Po Valley past the town of Melegnano and eventually flows into the Po river in Orio Litta.
