The fourteenth-century basilica of San Bassiano is the only building left standing in Laus Pompeia, today Lodi Vecchia, which survived the destruction perpetrated by the Milanese army in 1158. Emperor Frederick Barbarossa decided to rebuild Laus a few kilometers away, on the Eghezzone hill and founded the new city: Laus Nova, today's Lodi. In addition to the basilica, it is also interesting to visit the archaeological remains of the old city.

The monument is made of copper, with an internal iron structure, and rests on a stone base. It represents a woman raising her child towards the sky, symbolizing the love for the new generations and the trust that they will grow up developing ideals of peace.
