Dolceacqua is an enchanting medieval village famous for its castle, the Roman "humpback" bridge and the production of Rossese wine. At the end of 1800 the impressionist painter Claude Monet was fascinated by this village and after having portrayed it in his letters he described it as follows: "... the place is superb, there is a bridge that is a jewel of lightness ..."
