A small, typically Italian baroque church that sometimes welcomes large groups of pilgrims.

The Abbey of Santa Maria di Vezzolano, located in the hills of Monferrato, is a jewel of Romanesque-Gothic architecture. Dating back to the 12th century, it preserves medieval frescoes and a valuable carved pier, and is surrounded by an aura of history and spirituality.

A not very long climb with sections in double figures. Very few cars pass by and this is very relaxing.

The church hides a curiosity ... in order to expand the original church, in 1776 the bell tower was literally "MOVED" - as it was - to its current position by the master Crescentino Serra, as reported by the plaque placed at its base

The church of Santi Nazario e Celso stands completely isolated about two kilometers north-east of Montechiaro d'Asti on the slopes of a green hill (the "Bric San Nazario"), surrounded all around by trees except on the facade. The building strikes the visitor from afar for its tall bell tower and for the chromatic effect given by the alternating bands of brick and sandstone; it constitutes an important testimony of the Romanesque architecture that developed in the XII century in the Asti Monferrato area.

The Abbey of Santa Maria di Vezzolano is a religious building in Romanesque and Gothic style, one of the most important medieval monuments in Piedmont, located in the municipality of Albugnano in the province of Asti. The name "abbey" has always been used improperly, even by the public authorities responsible for its management, since the church has never been like that. The correct name is Canonica di Santa Maria di Vezzolano, as can be seen from the attached bibliography. Since December 2014, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities has managed it through the Piedmont Museum Complex, which became the Regional Directorate for Museums in December 2019.
