Federa Lake, cradled in the heart of the Dolomites along the Alta Via n.1, is a shimmering gem that enchants hikers with its alpine beauty. Nestled amid towering peaks and rugged cliffs, the lake reflects the grandeur of the surrounding landscape. As you approach Federa Lake on the Alta Via n.1, the panorama unfolds, revealing the turquoise waters mirroring the rocky spires above. The air is crisp, carrying the scent of mountain flora, and the stillness is interrupted only by the occasional rustle of wildlife.

The Forcella de Formin, at 2,462 meters above sea level, is a large pass characterized by the presence of reddish outcrops. On one side you have the characteristic landscape of the Lastoi de Formin, while on the eastern side the pass is closed by the Croda da Lago massif. The atmosphere is surreal, almost lunar, given by the presence of dolomite rocks.

The steep and challenging terrain through the forest leads to a short detour at the end of which is this little lookout point that rewards your efforts with a wonderful view of the entire valley. From here you can see Cortina among the green hills, the fantastic formations of the Cinque Torri, the imposing Mount Cristallo and the Tofane group. It's a magnificent sight!
