산타 마리아 델 폰테 성역은 유서 깊은 도시 중심부 근처, 포르타 누오바 아치의 시작점으로 시작되는 긴 나무 늘어선 거리 끝에 자리한 웅장한 기념물 단지입니다. 그 기원은 유명한 발현 사건으로 거슬러 올라갑니다. 1432년 5월 26일, 카라바조 마을 근처 마촐렝고 초원에서 농부 지아네타 데 바키는 여왕과 아름다움으로 즉시 성모 마리아로 알아본 여성의 발현을 목격했습니다. 이 사건을 증명하기 위해 들판에서 새로운 샘이 솟아났고, 그 물은 질병을 치료할 수 있었습니다. 바로 다음 세기에 이 사건을 영원히 기념하기 위한 예배당이 세워졌고, 이 건물은 현재 카라바조 성역 대성당이 되었습니다.
