The toponym “Madonna delle Cataste” is used to indicate an area of the territory of Ponzano di Fermo at the extreme limit of Contrada Schito, on the right bank of the Ete Vivo river. In retracing the history of the town, it should be noted that around twenty Picene tombs from the Iron Age were brought to light in Piane di Grottazzolina, the furnishings of which are preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Ancona
