In the immediate vicinity of Appignano, many of the fields around the small town are full of sunflowers, so during the summer the flowers bloom and this whole picture is enriched with large splashes of yellow.

Positioned in the valley of the Monocchia stream, exactly halfway between the sea and the mountains, Appignano has a well-preserved medieval centre, still embraced by the ancient city walls, surmounted by a cusped bell tower dating back to the fifteenth century. An agricultural and industrial centre, the town is renowned for its ceramic craftsmanship, a tradition that has endured for more than 500 years, and is famous for the production and sale of furniture. Its origins are ancient, dating back to the era of Roman domination. From this point, you can enjoy a splendid view of the village, nestled among the rolling hills.

According to an ancient legend, it is said that Filottrano was founded by the Lombard prince Ottrano: the name of the town is the synthesis of Mons Philiorum Optrani, or the "mountain of the sons of Ottrano". The first certain sources on the existence of a small fortified village date back to 1187. In the heart of the historic center, the town hall stands out with its civic tower. Walking through the streets of Filottrano, you can perceive the medieval atmosphere of the town. Famous for its sartorial tradition, it even houses the sewing machine museum.

A beautiful medieval town. Filottrano is also sadly known for being the town of the great cyclist Scarponi, winner of the 2011 Giro d'Italia and who died in the streets of his town due to an accident.

Walking through the streets of Filottrano you can breathe the medieval atmosphere of the town. It is the city of tailoring, so much so that there is the sewing machine museum.

The FONTE MONTECESA or DEL BORGO is located in a side street which, going down is to the right, of the Costa del Borgo. It is located against the rear wall of the houses on one side of the coast. This too has bows like that of the Guazzatore

FONTE MAGNA is the most important and well-known spring in Osimo and perhaps one of the oldest because it was there even before the Romans. It was a semi-cylindrical concrete cistern with a diameter of twelve meters and five or six meters high. It was once covered. Drinking water flows here perpetually. For years this source has supplied the people of Osimans with water and historical events that took place in its vicinity are told. In medieval times it was even polluted so as not to allow enemies to use it. Many secret tunnels that were under the houses of Osimane reached the source and the inhabitants of the city came out from a hidden door close to it, and identifiable even today, to supply themselves with water without being seen and thus face the enemy sieges.
