The Church of the Virgin Mary was built on the old foundations in the 18th century in the Baroque style. It is the sanctuary of the diocese of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca. On the promontory where the current church of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae stands there was originally a pagan temple dedicated to Minerva, as evidenced by the discovery of an altar preserved inside the church. In the square in front of the church there is the Pietrina Cross, the Marian column dating from 1694, surmounted by a statue of the Madonna by Filiberto Aierbo de Aragon, and the lighthouse.

Baia di San Gregorio. Difficult terrain leading to the bay, quite a steep descent and ascent, but the charm and atmosphere of the bay will make up for the effort.

It is truly exciting to reach Km 0, the southernmost point of the Italian peninsula, where the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea meet. The Santa Maria di Leuca lighthouse is the second tallest lighthouse in Italy, after that of Genoa.

It is said that this is where the two seas meet. The rocks of this promontory hide two secrets: an imposing natural cave, called Grotta del Diavolo, and an underground bunker or casemate with a very special charm.

Be careful when going down. the purple clay is very slippery in places!

Punta Ristola is the southernmost point of Puglia. This cave is defined by legend as the Gate of Hell. Tradition has it that it was crossed by Telemachus to enter the Kingdom of Hell in search of Father Ulysses.
