Elephant Stone

Roccia dell'Elefante / Elephant Rock (Trachyte Rock) Unique rock formation resembling a sitting elephant with ancient graves. The Roccia dell'Elefante is located east of Castelsardo on a side road. It is a trachyte rock that has been shaped into an elephant by erosion. The "house in the rock", an extraordinary pre-Nuragic architecture 'lived' until the 20th century, is in the 'heart' of a village in Anglona, in the north-west of Sardinia. It is the largest domu de Janas excavated to date.

This descent leads to the villages of Laerru, Bulzi and Sedini. There are several bends in the road in quick succession that offer spectacular views of the Sardinian countryside.

The Doria Castle in Chiaramonti is located at the top of the hill overlooking the town and dominates the Anglona territory. Reachable from the narrow streets of the historic center of the town, the remains of the castle built in the 14th century by the Genoese Doria family are visible.
