A very pleasant climb, not too demanding, very panoramic

The ancient village was born as Castagneto Marittimo and in 1907 changed its name to Castagneto Carducci, in honor of the famous poet Giosuè Carducci, who spent his childhood in this land.

Around the Della Gherardesca castle, on the top of a hill, the medieval village of Castagneto developed with narrow paved alleys, beautiful squares, artisan shops, trattorias. The Palazzo Pretorio is the seat of the Municipality, among the churches, San Lorenzo is one of the oldest buildings, the Santissimo Crocifisso preserves a wooden one from the 15th century. The territory has a close bond with the poet Giosuè Carducci. The poem “Davanti a San Guido” made the avenue famous, with a double row of cypress trees, which connects the oratory of San Guido to the village of Bolgheri announced by the medieval red brick castle. Between Castagneto and Bolgheri the Strada del Vino e dell’Olio Costa degli Etruschi winds.
