The landmark of Volterra is the Porta all'Arco, the oldest preserved Etruscan city gate in Italy from the 4th century. v. It was once the main entrance from the south into the city, which was called Velathri in Etruscan times.

The central gateway to the old town, which is protected by walls and has narrow streets.

The city with the many towers, many for habitation and not for defence. Volterra is on top of a ridge and you have an incredible view of the thousand hills of Tuscany.

Beautiful waterfalls reachable via a simple single trek only in small stretches impractical by bike (just get off). The photos (mine) unfortunately do not do justice .... The water descends in several balsi from a height of a few tens of meters to the pool below with a show that is worth a visit.
