The Basilica of Santa Margherita is located in the highest part of Cortona and is dedicated to the city's patron saint. Built between the 13th and 14th centuries, it houses the relics of Saint Margherita and is an important place of worship, as well as a significant example of Tuscan Gothic architecture. From the basilica and the nearby lookouts, you can enjoy a splendid view of Cortona and the Val di Chiana.

beautiful and easy tour, even gravel easily. But avoid periods with tall grass...

Beautiful trail but be careful if you see a flock because there are Maremma shepherds that sometimes chase you.

beautiful route, shame about the lack of shade, which goes from Arezzo to Orvieto completely immersed in the fields

It is also worth exploring the outside area of the Basilica di Santa Margherita. There are many beautiful viewpoints down onto the Tuscan and Umbrian valleys. On the Umbrian side, the view of Lake Trasimeno is particularly striking.

The Basilica of Saint Margherita is dedicated to the patron saint of Cortona. She lived in the 13th century and was an Italian nun belonging to the Franciscan order, who devoted her life to prayer and works of charity. She was canonized in 1728 due to her mystical visions. The church was built just a few years after Margherita's death in 1297. From around 1330, the church housed the body of Saint Margherita, which remains there to this day.
