Many Italian churches are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and thus bear "SANTA MARIA" (occasionally elevated to "SANTISSIMA") in their name. This Franciscan monastery has the addition "IMMACOLATA," meaning it is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. This term, which may sound somewhat theoretical and difficult to grasp today, expresses the idea that the Virgin Mary was, from the very beginning, freed by God's grace from the burden of original sin—which every human being otherwise carries. Therefore, when the Archangel later announced to her in Nazareth that she would give birth to the Son of God, she was willing to answer "yes" of her own free will. In 1854, Pope Pius IX declared this doctrine a dogma. The feast day for this occasion – and at the same time the patronal feast of this church – which in the Catholic liturgy is called in full: “Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary” is celebrated annually on December 8th.

Avoid this destination. The trail is steep, long, and dangerous, and beyond the river it's even impassable!

Small isolated rural village in the municipality of Amandola. It offers a splendid view of Mount Amandola and Mount Priora. There is also a fountain with drinkable water. From here there are paths to reach the Campolungo Refuge, Capovalle or the N4 path of the Monti Sibillini National Park

I recommend not doing the whole route but going back after reaching Grotta dei Frati. In fact, going down further, you reach the river and to continue you literally have to walk into it. There is no path on the side. In addition, after crossing the river and taking the path again, the road is impassable due to a landslide since 2022. Nice route but the circular tour is no longer possible.

From Grotta dei Frati go back and do not continue the path towards the river. Dangerous path and also closed by an ordinance of 2022 due to subsidence of the land. The path literally passes inside the river (in reality a real path no longer exists) and once you have resumed the marked path, you will find yourself in front of a sign prohibiting access to pedestrians due to danger.
