An authentic and unmissable refuge where we stopped during our mountain bike crossing of the Assietta with my friend. Two incredible days filled with the beauty of the surroundings and exceptional autumn light. One night at 2500m altitude at the Casa Assietta refuge, where we were welcomed like royalty by Roberto! A good night's sleep under the covers after the host had prepared an excellent dinner for us! Thank you, Roberto!

I'd been dreaming of being there for a long time, and I finally made it. It's a simply wonderful place. Words needn't be written. I climbed to the pass on its eastern slope, the one that starts from Pian dell'Alpe, and previously climbed Colle delle Finestre from Susa. Combining the two sections, I can assure you it's one of the toughest climbs I've ever done, but also one of the most beautiful. The section from Pian dell'Alpe to Colle della Assietta is divided into three parts: the first 4 kilometers of a steady climb at 6-7% gradient, the 2-kilometer intermediate rest stop, and the final 4 kilometers with steeper gradients and a worse track condition. I wholeheartedly invite you all to enjoy this wonderful place.

Usseaux is a small village located in the heart of the Cottian Alps at 1,200 meters above sea level, nestled between two splendid natural areas, the Orsiera-Rocciavrè natural park and the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand natural park. Finally the wonder! Ascent to Colle dell'Assietta. Departure from Pian dell'Alpe, where the most famous of the military roads in the area begins, the Strada dell'Assietta which reaches Sestriere following the watershed ridge between Val Susa and Val Chisone and crossing the plateau of the same name. The first stretch from Pian dell'Alpe to Colle dell'Assietta runs on the south side with glimpses of Monte Albergian and distant Sestriere. After about 12km. the road becomes more demanding and narrower in some stretches: to the north you can see the Gran Serin battery, which rises imposingly on the underlying Colle dell'Assietta. After the latter and the Testa dell'Assietta, the itinerary continues towards the Genevris, touching the Battery of Gran Mouttas on the right and the Battery Gran Costa on the left; the Lauson, Blegier and Bourget hills follow, always at altitudes above 2000m. Having reached Colle Basset, the descent to Sestriere begins. Given the late hour and the looming fog, after a short stop at the Casa Assietta Refuge, I opted for the return, retracing the wonderful stretch of road I had gone up, thus giving me magical visions created by the fog. The most beautiful ride ever on the road, landscapes and fitness at 🔝. To be repeated absolutely!
