Cavour Square

Vercelli is a lovely city center of modest size but with a unique charm: worth seeing are the central Piazza Cavour, the porticoes, the Basilica of Sant’Andrea with the 10th century “Vercelli Book”, the metropolitan cathedral of Sant’Eusebio and the “Arca” exhibition center near the church of San Marco.

A water source runs through the church underground. Looking at the facade, on the right you can see the water flowing. Inside, behind the altar, you can see the underground source.

The prosperous 13th-century Vercelli is still visible in the town's predominantly medieval layout, dominated by its beautiful basilica. In addition, the Sacred Mountains nearby, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, are an interesting tourist destination in this ancient textile region.

Piazza Cavour, the heart of Vercelli, is a surprisingly beautiful square. The surrounding palazzi have colonnades where you can walk all the way around, sheltered from the rain or sun. The fourteenth-century Case Arborio Biamino e Bonetti on the north-east side are beautiful with their terracotta arcade arches. In the center of the square is a statue of Camillo Benso di Cavour, an important statesman and a key player in Italian unification. The Torre dell'Angelo towers above the roofs. Vercelli, with its nicknames such as 'Rice Capital of Europe' and 'City of the Seven Championships', has a lot to offer, including beautiful churches such as the Chiesa di San Cristoforo with frescoes by Gaudenzio Ferrari.
