The Bosco della Pastrona, a green area of approximately 50 hectares, connects the river with the city of Casale Monferrato. The Municipal Administration commissioned the sculptor Abbondio Sangiorgio (Milan 1798-1879) to design an equestrian monument to the Savoy king as tangible thanks for having chosen the city, in 1838, as the seat of the second Court of Appeal of Piedmont and the construction of the first bridge over the Po.
