Built about 25 years ago (1998), the Riesbrunnen fountain in the Kaltenbach valley has now undergone a complete renovation. It lies on the path from Gompelscheuer to the idyllic Kaltenbachsee (Jockeles Flößerweg), directly on the municipal border between Enzklösterle and Seewald and on the district border between Calw and Freudenstadt. The fountain now also serves as a refreshment station, complete with a blue cash box for payment. At the unveiling of the renovated fountain, named Riesbrunnen, it was suggested that its name might derive from the giant (or "Ries," as it were) of transporting timber, a concept historically associated with forestry. This is particularly relevant given that, according to an information panel at Kaltenbachsee, the lake's water was used as "swell water" for timber transport. The panel explains that "additional swell water required for timber rafting could be released from the lake on demand."

A very beautiful valley (I only know it in winter, but I'm sure it's lovely in any season). The hiking trail is comfortable, partly along wide tracks; you can even reach Kaltenbachsee with a suitable stroller. However, the narrow path to Kaltenbachsee, which is naturally more exciting and romantic, can only be traversed on foot.

It's bearable here. In good weather, it's suitable for swimming.
