The Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Cosolazione, in Montovolo, dates back to the 12th century. It stands 912 meters above sea level, over a church dating back to before the year 1000, itself built on a pagan temple. Above the altar is a wooden sculpture of the Blessed Virgin and Child, dating back to the 15th century. Getting there is a very challenging climb.

From Guzzano there are marked paths and routes to get to the Castrola bridge and Castel di Casio. I tried to take the route which at the moment I do not recommend because the path is not delineated and full of nettles and shrubs that reach up to belly height. If you do this route, bring your scythe with you too 😂😂😂

Beyond the sanctuary of Montovolo and at a higher altitude, we find the Oratory of Santa Caterina, a precious example of mountain Romanesque in stone.

The Hermitage of Montovolo, from the official name of Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine della Consolazione di Montovolo, offers a wonderful view of the Reno valley at an altitude of 1000 metres. The sanctuary is open from May to September on Saturdays and Sundays; there is a small refreshment point. It is possible to stay overnight by contacting the number +39 339 153 0392 in advance.

Superb medieval village located in the municipality of Grizzana Morandi, in the locality of Vimignano, La Scola is one of the best preserved medieval villages in the Bolognese Apennines, where time seems to have stopped. The Lombard word "Sculca", which meant lookout, or guard post, gives rise to the term Scola.

The Church of Camugnano overlooks spectacular views of the Apennines, and the town has in fact been called "the terrace of the Apennines", due to its location. Its church, known as San Martino Vescovo, seems to date back to the late 14th century.

In Guzzano there is the Pieve di S. Pietro, which seems to date back to the 10th century. However, the ancient church was destroyed and rebuilt many times, some of which were in slightly different positions than the original. The last modification dates back to the 19th century and was the work of a Bolognese architect.
