The Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Cosolazione, in Montovolo, dates back to the 12th century. It stands 912 meters above sea level, over a church dating back to before the year 1000, itself built on a pagan temple. Above the altar is a wooden sculpture of the Blessed Virgin and Child, dating back to the 15th century. Getting there is a very challenging climb.

From Guzzano there are marked paths and routes to get to the Castrola bridge and Castel di Casio. I tried to take the route which at the moment I do not recommend because the path is not delineated and full of nettles and shrubs that reach up to belly height. If you do this route, bring your scythe with you too 😂😂😂

As in many other areas of Europe, war and tyranny claimed their victims here in the first half of the 20th century. The many memorials that you often come across along the way have not lost their significance. Their most important message remains today: a reminder for PEACE.

The small oratory in mountain Romanesque style is located near the Sanctuary of Montovolo and at a slightly higher altitude in the direction of the leap of Santa Caterina
