The church of Carmine, in Altavilla, stands near Piazza Umberto I. It has a single nave and was originally the chapel of the Carmelite Convent founded before 1600. In the 1756 publication "Of the Illustrious Men of the Royal Convent of Carmine Maggiore in Naples" – Book IV page 248 by Father Mariano Ventimiglia, Carmelite" the following is reported: "Teodoro Perillo Altilio, master and doctor of Sacred Theology, distinguished theologian and preacher. Among the many other positions he commendably held was that of prior of his convent of Carmine in Naples, to which he was elected in 1578 by the General Chapter, celebrated that year by our order in the city of Piacenza and exercised with the utmost zeal and prudence for the space of a year. He was the one who founded and erected from the foundations the ancient Carmelite Convent, with its church in Altavilla.
