The Vogelsang Pass is a mountain pass in the Kaiserstuhl region, approximately 383 meters high, located between Bötzingen and Vogtsburg. It lies on the L115 road and serves as a gateway to the interior of the Kaiserstuhl. The pass is a popular starting point for hikes and bike tours and offers beautiful views of vineyards, the Rhine plain, and the Black Forest. 🌄

Driving in the opposite direction, you come through this gate; from there the beautiful cycle path "Voie verte" begins 😁

The first lord of the castle was Hildebrand Spenlin from Breisach. The word "Spenlin" means "little shavings" (from a plane). In Alemannic usage, Spenlin is called "Spänle." Without the diminutive, Span = Spon. The castle is mentioned in documents as Spenlins Eck, Span-Egge, or the Sponeck.

Overall, a lovely experience that I would recommend. The lake and the beach were unfortunately very crowded, but you could swim in the lake itself. 🏊‍♂️ It was just a bit overgrown with algae. It was also difficult to get there; you had to drive around several gates and even cross a small stream. All in all, it was a lovely visit.
