2월 8, 2024, Cattedrale di San Gerlando
And right in front of the cathedral of Agrigento, dedicated to San Gerlando, the Magna Via Francigena ends. The church is an example of the overlap of different architectural styles, due to continuous alterations over the years.

Best to visit in the morning. I only ever saw it closed in the afternoon.

The library was founded in 1888, while in 1983 it was established as an institution with the name of "Biblioteca Santo Spirito" by the Palermitan librarian Francesco La Rocca who was its first director. After his untimely death the "Santo Spirito library" was rededicated in his name. In 2008 the library was transferred to a historic building in Agrigento, a former notarial archive, suitably renovated, and was inaugurated on May 30 of the same year in the presence of the mayor of Agrigento Marco Zambuto, and the cultural authorities of the city of Agrigento. 4월 23, 2023, Cattedrale di San Gerlando
Cathedral of San Gerlando The Cathedral of Agrigento or Cathedral of San Gerlando is a beautiful example of the overlapping of different architectural styles. The construction of the building dates back to the period between 1096 and 1102 at the behest of Gerlando di Besançon who, in those years, was the bishop of Agrigento. Over the centuries, however, it has undergone continuous transformations and additions that have changed both its external and internal appearance. In the right aisle is the urn of San Gerlando which, twice a year, is carried in procession through the streets of the city. The tower of the Cathedral of Agrigento contains a copy of the mysterious Devil's Letter. According to legend, it was written in 1676 by a nun from the monastery of Palma di Montechiaro under the dictation of the Devil himself. Source: theworldofsicily.com

4월 23, 2023, Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Basilica dell'Immacolata), Agrigento
The site where the basilica of the Immaculate Conception stands was used as a sacred place from the fourteenth century, when a small church and a convent of Franciscan friars were erected at the behest of the Chiaramonte family, the remains of which are still visible next to those of the basilica . The building, initially known as the church of San Francesco, took on its current form in 1788 and was subsequently named after the Immaculate Conception and elevated to the rank of minor basilica in 1940, at the behest of Pope Pius XII. It was damaged during the Second World War, but was restored at the instigation of the parish priest Monsignor Michele Sclafani. Every year the feast of the Immaculate Conception takes place there, deeply felt in Agrigento. Source: wikipedia

The church is in Baroque style, with a facade in sandstone tuff, built on three towers: two bell towers and another, where there is a statue of San Francesco, in white marble. The interior has a single nave, in which there are some frescoes by Sebastiano Consoli, a statue of the Madonna and a wooden crucifix from the 18th century, made by Vittorio Cardinale. The church has a large pipe organ, built in 1948 by the Mascioni di Cuvio organ company: the instrument has 2 keyboards of 58 keys each, a concave-radial pedalboard of 30 notes and 28 sound registers, with a total of almost 2000 pipes. Previously, a second organ was located in the presbytery, which was completely destroyed by the bombings of World War II. Source: wikipedia

10월 10, 2022, Deli Sulphur Railway Station (Disused)
The line was opened in two periods: between 1911 and 1915 the Naro - Licata section was activated as a continuation of the Canicattì - Naro connection opened on 28/02/1911; in 1921 the connection between Margonia and Agrigento was made. The line had 6 rack and pinion sections with a gradient of 75 ‰ for a total of 10.26 km: from km 3 + 300 to km 5 + 195; from km 11.307 to km 12.798; from km 14.374 to km 15.406; from km 16.568 to km 18.031; from km 38.608 to km 40.618; from km 40.938 to km 43.271 (progressive referring to the station of Agrigento Bassa). Current state: The railway site, no longer armed, can only be traced in parts as a dirt country road. Long stretches of former grounds have been incorporated into cultivated fields or transformed into ordinary roads. The works of art are generally still visible, although some are in poor condition. Most of the buildings of the former stations and the toll booths have been abandoned and dilapidated. The Agrigento Centrale - Agrigento Bassa section was common to the Palermo - Agrigento Centrale ordinary gauge line and the Castelvetrano - Agrigento Centrale narrow gauge line. The trains coming from Licata could reach Agrigento Centrale thanks to a narrow gauge track placed between the ordinary gauge track. The narrow gauge track between Agrigento Bassa and Agrigento Centrale remained in operation even after the closure of the line, used by the Castelvetrano - Agrigento Centrale railway.
