Difficult descent on the last kilometer

It is the first district encountered by those entering the historic center coming from Colico. The entrance is marked by an arched door, built in the 18th century in honor of a commissioner from the Grisons. The height of the houses facing the gently sloping street is nearly uniform, ranging from three to four stories. The most interesting part of these homes, dating from the 16th to the 18th century, is the ground floor, which features portals framed with exquisite soapstone motifs. This is due, in addition to the locals' particular sensitivity to stonework, to the limited "width" of the street, which does not allow for high views. This spatial continuity is interrupted by the widening of the street at the church of Santa Maria, compared to the continuous row of houses. There are numerous buildings of great artistic value along this street. Also of interest are the 16th and 17th-century epigraphs: some in Latin, others in Italian.
