The idyllic Nassau Harbor, with its floating pontoon of the Nassau Bridge, is home to numerous sailboats. The influence of the tides can hardly be observed more vividly than at Nassau Harbor: the pontoon and the boats moored there rise and fall by several meters with the alternating high and low tides. The Nassau Bridge is named after the crew of the SMS Nassau, who were the first to cross it in 1910.

Lock-free tidal harbor With a view of the North Sea and the boats moored in the harbor, you will find the Nassau Bridge in Nassau Harbor. It got its name from the crew of the S.M.S. Nassau, which was the first to cross the bridge in 1910. This steel and wood structure is over 100 years old and has seen many rough seas. In order to withstand the tides, it was built as a pontoon bridge. This means that the structure has no pillars, but rests on floating bodies and moves with the tide. There are several fish restaurants in Nassau Harbor. During extreme high water, a spring tide or a storm surge, the water rises over the edge of the harbor and floods the Nassau Bridge and adjacent areas.
