Once you get to Cento Croci it would be a shame not to get to the Cappelletta and admire the splendid bucolic landscapes that can be admired even in autumn. Wind turbines are awful but majestic.

The Passo della Cappelletta is a beautiful, extremely lonely pass. Nevertheless, a very good road runs up here. The reason for this is the large wind turbines that are used to generate electricity. The conclusion that it is often quite windy here is correct. The pass is a real ascent from the east. Initially steep, then very pleasant to drive in a great landscape. A recently asphalted ridge road comes from the northwest, which branches off just below the Passo di Cento Croci. This offers great views towards the Varatal. Ideally, the pass is therefore driven from east to west. However, since the road is very good, the descent is not a problem.

The Brattello pass is located at 950 m. above sea level, between the Emilian province of Parma and the Tuscan province of Massa-Carrara. It is surrounded by the forests of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park and is crossed by a network of paths used in the past by merchants, pilgrims, brigands and shepherds, through woods and lakes, pastures and chestnut woods. The pass is easily accessible via the SP 39 from Pontremoli and the SP 20 from Borgotaro (both towns are also connected by a railway line).

Beautiful step that starts from Varese Ligure and in 12 km of ascent it goes up to 1000 meters of the brow. Regular ascent very exposed to the sun but which from half onwards gives way to an Alpine panorama that has few equals in the Apennines.

From the road that leads from the southwest to the Passo di Cento Croci, about 500 meters below the pass, there is a supply road for the wind turbines at the Passo della Cappelletta. This is almost completely free of traffic and 2014/2015, the covering was partially completely renewed. Thus, there is a great way to incorporate the Passo della Cappelletta in tours.

The Passo di Cento Crocci forms a transition from Tarotal to Varatal. Above all, the driveway on the Ligurian side, coming from Varese Ligure, is very nice for us racing cyclists. The pass itself is a bit in the forest, so that the beautiful views are on both sides a few hundred meters below the pass. If you drive about 500 m towards Varese, you can turn left onto the beautiful ridge road to Passo della Cappelletta.
