Part of the pedestrian zone extends eastward from the cathedral. Many small shops characterize the area along Via Alessandro Manzoni, which becomes Via Giuseppe Mazzini.

From the cathedral, you pass under the town hall tower to this part of the pedestrian zone. Many small shops dominate the scene.

Crema's Town Hall (Palazzo del Comune) is located in the center of Crema, directly opposite the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. The town hall is built in the 16th-century Renaissance style with a 17th-century tower.

The center of the small town is the "Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta" (Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary). The Gothic-style cathedral is almost 700 years old.

The city's most beautiful ancient buildings date from the 13th and 14th centuries, when Cremona was an independent municipality but had to defend this position again and again in smaller and larger military conflicts between the empire, the popes and neighboring cities.
