The owner and family were immediately drawn to the charm of a 400-year-old estate building. Now, with a limited budget, a multi-generational house should be built in it, which uses the qualities of the existing building. The building on the outskirts of Sachsenhagen is characterized by two very different external references. In the west, the much-frequented entrances via a courtyard and in the east, the unobstructed view of the landscape and direct access to the garden. The aim of the design was to link these different qualities with the uses inside the building. The hallway, the heart of the house, is in a central position and serves as a distributor and meeting point in the building. From here you can reach the living area to the east, the private rooms on the upper floor and the workshop and storage rooms. There is also a connection to the barrier-free granny flat. In addition to the spatial reorganization and renovation with ecological building materials, the energetic upgrade was the focus of interest. In order to preserve the high-quality appearance of the sandstone outer walls, internal insulation was provided along with new windows and an insulated floor slab.
