Near the Solarie Pass border crossing, at an altitude of 960 meters, stands this stele commemorating Riccardo Giusto. He is considered the first of approximately 650,000 Italian soldiers to die during the First World War.

A former border station, a classic example of modern architecture, having become obsolete due to the expansion of EU member states. On the Italian side, the border building is very well preserved and used by the Alpini (Italian mountain troops), while the Slovenian building is dilapidated. On the Italian side, there is also a monument to a distinguished Alpini soldier.

The entire Kolovrat Ridge was a theater of World War I. At 1,115 meters above sea level, the "Third Italian Defense Line" was established, which played a key role during the Battle of the Isonzo. Many of the paths and positions have been restored to their original condition, so that the trenches, positions, and fortifications now form a free, accessible open-air museum for everyone. The open-air museum also features a small hill serving as a viewing platform. From here, breathtaking views of the valley to Tolmin, the Soca River, and the surrounding mountains are offered.

The walk around the two peaks is very rewarding. The views are magnificent in all directions.

Extremely hard climb on all three asphalted sides, Mount Kolovrat is located very close to the Italian-Slovenian border and was tackled for the first time by the Giro d'Italia in 2022. That day Koen Bouwman was the first to reach the summit, but these areas are unfortunately also known for tragic events. The homonymous ridge of which the Kolovrat is part was tragically affected by the battle of Caporetto, which led to the retreat of the Italian troops up to the Piave line: on the morning of 24 October 1917 the Kolovrat chain was hit by a heavy German bombardment which caused a enormous number of victims both among the military and among the local civilian population.

The finish site of the nineteenth stage of the 2022 Giro d'Italia, won by Koen Bouwman, the Castelmonte Sanctuary (Stara Gora in Slovenian, meaning "ancient mountain") is located in the village of the same name in the municipality of Prepotto. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, the sanctuary was consecrated in 1744 and is of great importance to Slovenian literature: in the 1490s, the so-called Castelmonte Manuscript (Starogorski rokopis in Slovenian) was written here, one of the oldest surviving documents written in the Slovenian language.
