2월 10, 2026, View of the Erpeler Ley and the Rhine
The view of the Erpeler Ley and the Rhine is both impressive and tranquil. From the steep cliff face, a panoramic landscape unfolds, with the Rhine gracefully winding its way through the valley, surrounded by green hills and vineyards. The Erpeler Ley towers strikingly above the water, offering a unique perspective on passing ships and the changing light that gives the riverscape a constantly changing atmosphere. In clear weather, the view extends far over the bends of the Rhine, making this spot a popular vantage point for hikers, photographers, and nature lovers. https://www.zelisproviders.com

Cycled past on my 13th stage of the Rhine Cycle Route. The black, stubby bridgeheads are clearly visible from afar. The Remagen Peace Museum Bridge ❗️❗️ The plaque explains this historic site. Historic, worth seeing, and a memorial to the past. 🔝

6월 14, 2025, Ludendorff Bridge Towers (Remagen)
The Ludendorff Bridge, known as the Remagen Bridge, was a two-track railway bridge over the Rhine between Remagen and Erpel. It was commissioned for military reasons in 1916 during the First World War and named in honor of the Army Quartermaster General, Erich Ludendorff, on May 1, 1918, for the inauguration of Kaiser Wilhelm II. On March 7, 1945, at the end of the Second World War, a small vanguard of US soldiers reached the undamaged bridge and captured it. Wehrmacht soldiers tried in vain to destroy the bridge in the days following its capture, because according to the Wehrmacht leadership's plans, all Rhine bridges were to be blown up. However, less explosives (300 kg instead of 600 kg) and less efficient explosives (Donarit instead of Ekrasit) were used than planned. During the demolition, the bridge was briefly lifted from its supports. It finally collapsed on March 17, 1945, likely as a result of the demolition. The Peace Museum in the bridge towers, located since 1980, impressively displays images and documents from that time, everyday items and equipment of the soldiers fighting on the bridge, and much more. Visitors are immersed in the historical events of the Battle of Remagen at the original site and will understand the significance of capturing this bridge and the courage and determination required to face the associated real dangers, even one's own death. The bridge towers on the Remagen side are used as a Peace Museum. On the Erpel side, cultural events take place in the tunnel.

The Rhine panorama at Lapsus appears to be a scenic cycling route near Remagen, Germany. It’s part of a loop that includes the Fähre Kripp-Linz, offering a picturesque view of the Rhine River. If you’re into cycling, this could be a great ride with mostly paved surfaces and an easy difficulty level https://www.talktofoodlion.cc

12월 5, 2024, Heisterbach Abbey Ruins
The Monk of Heisterbach A young monk in the monastery of Heisterbach is strolling in the furthest place in the garden; he ponders eternity quietly and deeply, and at the same time researches God's holy word. He reads what Peter the Apostle said: To the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day to him! - But no matter how he ponders, it never becomes clear to him. And he loses himself doubtfully in the forest; he does not hear or see what is going on around him. It is only when the pious vespers bell rings that he is reminded of his serious monastic duty. He quickly reaches the garden as he runs, a stranger opens the gate for him; He is taken aback - but look, the church is already shining brightly, and the holy choir of the brothers can be heard from within. He rushes to his chair and enters - but miraculously - someone else is sitting there! He looks over the long rows of monks, he only finds an unknown person in the place. The astonished man is amazed all around: People ask for names, ask what they want. He says it - then someone murmurs through the sanctuary "No one has been called that for three hundred years!" "The last of that name," then sounds, "He was a doubter and disappeared in the forest; the name was not given to anyone else from then on." - He hears the word - a chill runs down his spine. He just names the abbot and the year, they pick up the old monastery book; then a great miracle of God becomes clear: it is he who disappeared for three centuries! Ha, what a solution! Suddenly his hair turns grey, he sinks down and is doomed to death, and as he dies he warns his band of brothers: "God is exalted above place and time." "What he conceals is only made clear by a miracle; so don't brood, think about my fate! I know that to him a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day to him!” (Wolfgang Müller, “Summer Days in the Siebengebirge”, 1867)
