The fortifications are among the most important monuments in Landsberg's old town. They date from different phases of urban development. Civic pride and a desire for representation were also expressed in the defensive structures. According to an inscription, the Bayertor, which can be seen from afar and was built in 1425, is one of the buildings with which the municipality wanted to impress travelers coming from Munich.
