A pleasure now in November with the wonderful weather. Today it's a lonely road, but in summer it will probably be busier.

The Torre dell'Aglio di Vieste was built in 1568. It is one of the best preserved Saracen towers that marked the entrance to the Greek port. It is located high, more than 100 meters above sea level. It is currently part of the "Pugnochiuso" tourist center and can be visited by tourists.

The Portogreco tower was built in 1568 between Vieste and Mattinata. The beach is very wild and spartan with a seabed of rocks and pebbles. To access, there is a path that leads to the tower. From the tower, you can see the Aglio and Pugnochiuso towers. At the time, fireworks, mirrors and lenses were used to communicate between one and the other.

From this panoramic point you can enjoy a splendid view of the Campi bay, not far from Vieste. It is surrounded by a beautiful Mediterranean landscape with Aleppo pines. In the center of the bay there are also two islets. The beach is much appreciated by those who practice scuba diving. In the surroundings of the Campi bay there are the most fascinating caves on the Gargano coast: the Calda cave, named after the hot water springs; the Sfondata cave, with an upper opening where the Aleppo pines are reflected in the emerald waters; the Contrabbandieri cave (with a double exit to facilitate escapes) and the Campana Piccola cave.

Cyclists, beware that this path leads to a dead end road and it is not possible to join the SS89 “litoranea” along the cliffs to avoid the gallery connecting Mattinata to Manfredonia. People heading to Manfredonia are better off staying on the state road and turn right before the gallery.

A wonderful inlet located within the Gargano National Park, hidden among the green of the Mediterranean scrub, among olive trees and ancient pines. Characterized by the stacks a few meters from the beach, with white cliffs overlooking the crystalline sea and a dense vegetation that covers the promontory behind it, it is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.

Below Mattinata and Monte Saraceno, this road unravels along the coast between olive groves. Charming and shaded, it is perfect for cycling or walking away from traffic.
