The steps in the Adige River near Algund are an artificially constructed riverbed ramp used for hydraulic engineering and flood protection. The stepped structure slows the water's velocity, protecting the riverbed from erosion. At the same time, the steps help better control runoff during floods. Such structures not only contribute to technical safety but can also be designed with ecological benefits in mind – for example, as a fish-passable hiking aid.
