Vorst Castle in Algund is a 13th-century hilltop castle first mentioned in documents in 1302. Situated on a rocky hill on the right bank of the Adige River in the Forst district, it consists of a keep, a residential wing, and a chapel with a Gothic reticulated vault dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul. Over the centuries, the castle was owned by various noble families, including the Lords of Vorst, the Starkenbergs, and the Brandis, and was rebuilt once again in 1880. It has been a listed building since 1951. Today, Vorst Castle belongs to the Fuchs family, who also operate the Forst Brewery. As it is privately owned, it is not open to the public and can only be viewed from the outside.

The Empress Maria Theresa Cycle Path follows the Adige River from Merano to Bolzano and is part of the well-known Adige Cycle Route. The route is largely flat and runs on well-maintained paths, making it ideal for leisurely cyclists. Along the way, you'll enjoy magnificent views of orchards, vineyards, and the surrounding mountains, while historic towns and small sights add variety. The cycle path is named after Maria Theresa of Austria, whose reforms in the 18th century left their mark on South Tyrol. Numerous refreshment stops and rest areas right by the river offer a relaxing break along the route. The path thus combines nature, cultural history, and cycling pleasure in a particularly pleasant way.

The steps in the Adige River near Algund are an artificially constructed riverbed ramp used for hydraulic engineering and flood protection. The stepped structure slows the water's velocity, protecting the riverbed from erosion. At the same time, the steps help better control runoff during floods. Such structures not only contribute to technical safety but can also be designed with ecological benefits in mind – for example, as a fish-passable hiking aid. The Adige steps blend harmoniously into the landscape and offer an attractive view for cyclists on the Adige Valley Cycle Path. They are particularly visible from the path along the Via Claudia Augusta and represent a vivid example of modern river design in harmony with nature and technology.
