The Colle del Montirone The monumental entrance designed by Jappelli testifies to the importance of this small hill, which was once rich in natural thermal springs that bubbled forth at a temperature of 80°C. Today, the stone pools can still be seen here, a symbol of the millennia-old thermal tradition of the town of Abano. The Doric column, topped with a chalice entwined by a serpent, was also designed by Giuseppe Jappelli in 1825, on the occasion of Emperor Franz I of Austria's visit. Abano Cathedral (Duomo di San Lorenzo) The cathedral is located in the old town of Abano and houses several important works of art: some paintings from the school of Jacopo Ceruti of the Pitocchetto, and other works by Pietro della Vecchia, Amleto Sartori, J. K. Henrici, Mario Pinton, Luigi Strazzabosco, Giorgio Scalco, Enrico Ghiro, Aristide Ghiro, and Imerio Trevisan. The bell tower has a 10th-century base, while the upper part dates back to 1315. Monument to the Fallen, Abano The monument was inaugurated in 1922. Numerous plaques have since been added, two of which commemorate those who fell in World War II, while two others are considerably more recent, dating from the 1990s. These plaques were erected to mark anniversaries related to civilian and military casualties, both during daily surveillance and as war victims. A stone pyramid stands atop a square base, surrounded by a wrought-iron fence. The upper part of the base features a parallelepiped on all four sides, inscribed with memorial plaques. Above this rises the column, topped by a carved eagle, the symbol of victory. It has outstretched wings and holds a laurel wreath between its legs. ...
