Ancient Via dei Brentatori

Between the Lavino and Samoggia streams, this ancient church near San Lorenzo in Collina took on its current appearance in the 15th century. The rose window and Renaissance cloister make it one of the most fascinating in the Bolognese Apennines, despite the fact that frescoes relating to the life of San Lorenzo were erased – a few centuries ago.

The church of Amola, also known by the full name of Church of Santa Maria Assunta Monte San Pietro, dates back to at least the 14th century and houses the precious painting "the Via Crucis" by Mauro Gandolfi, a Bolognese artist. The bell tower, rebuilt in 1946, is the only non-original element.

The church stands on top of a summit from which the view over the gullies and the plain is particularly beautiful. It can be reached by a fairly steep but not impossible climb, around 10%. Along the way up there are meadows on the side of the hill on which you can proceed on foot and enjoy an even better view.

Beautiful dirt road along the stream and in the middle of the trees, very bumpy in some places (perhaps more suitable for MTB). Beware of pedestrians.
